About Me

My photo
I'm a nature obsessed artist who lives in an little house in a little vilage in the Highlands of Scotland.I wander around a lot in the wilds and spend time just looking at things like birds and moths and trees and rocks. The rest of the time I'm drawing or painting, making odd things out of old stuff and drinking giant cups of peppermint tea. Imogen Greene is my pen name. I like the way it sounds and it just kind of suits what I do.

West Coast, Part Two

The beach

Sea hare (Aplysia punctata )

We saw a couple of these sea hares when we were canoeing on Loch Ewe. Being in the canoe is a great way to travel and see all the sea life that is usually hidden from view. The water is so clear and it's kind of mesmerising to be looking into several feet of that secret aquatic world. I'm already planning our next trip.

A week on the West Coast...

The road to the West

Our week on the West Coast was fabulous as anticipated. I was content mainly just to look and only did a couple of quick drawings so it was a proper holiday. There was just so much to look at- red throated divers in the bay, otter sightings almost daily, moths and butterflies, I could go on and on but best just to share some photos.... There will be a couple of other instalments next week.

A few days away and new business cards

I won't be posting for the next ten days as I'm away from civilisation for a bit, off to the wilds of the West Coast, north of Poolewe. I'm looking forward to it sooooo much, beautiful beaches, sea birds and rock pooling. Mmmmmm.

I hope I'll have lots of photos and sketches to share with you when I get back. In the meantime here are a couple from last years trip.

Work wise I made myself some new business cards last night using old card and rubber stamp kits, easy to do and really quick. I'd like to get hold of a lower case alphabet set but all the ones that are small enough seem to be upper case, I'll keep searching though and if you know of where I can get one, please let me know.

A grand day out.

A day away from the studio today, off to Royal Deeside for a hike up Lochnagar. The wildlife count was pretty good. Here's what we saw in order of appearance: 1 jay ,6 red deer stags, several grouse, heard ptarmigan (not seen), mountain hare, fish rising in the loch, several grouse, 3 ravens, mountain hare (probably the same one), red squirrel, 2 red deer stags, 2 short eared owls having an aerial sparring match (see photo below, not one of mine unfortunately), kestrel, 4 roe deer and all the usual bird life you see on a long drive and walk in the Highlands. Watching the owls was the highlight- lots of acrobatics and talon to talon at times. They are spectacular looking birds.

Feather collection.

I have been painting these feathers today. I think the first one is a pheasant and the middle one might be a woodpecker but not sure about the other one, any ideas? I pick up  feathers I come across while out walking so I have a good little collection, I think I'm going to start to label them with the date and location since sometimes I find random feathers in my coat pocket or rucksack and can't remember putting them there. I should finish the painting tomorrow so I'll let you have a peek when it's done.
