About Me

My photo
I'm a nature obsessed artist who lives in an little house in a little vilage in the Highlands of Scotland.I wander around a lot in the wilds and spend time just looking at things like birds and moths and trees and rocks. The rest of the time I'm drawing or painting, making odd things out of old stuff and drinking giant cups of peppermint tea. Imogen Greene is my pen name. I like the way it sounds and it just kind of suits what I do.

Aquamarine Blues

I spent today in the studio working on these little butterfly jewels.
The red kite is an experimental piece from a couple of days ago.
The butterflies are destined for this exhibition at the Jam Factory in Oxford in August. I'll be taking a road trip to deliver the work and I'm looking forward to spending a couple of days exploring Oxford.

In the studio today

This is what I started work on today..... a collection of butterflies. I'm going to try and remember to photograph it at various stages along the way but if I get in the groove I'm likely to get carried away with it and forget. I've chosen nine butterflies that we see locally; scotch argus, green veined white, ringlet, red admiral, common blue, peacock, fritillary, orange tip and small tortoiseshell.
I also managed to confirm the exhibition date today, August 1st at the Explore Abernethy Trust Centre in Nethy Bridge which is not far from where I live. The Trust does a marvellous job of promoting and looking after the natural heritage of the local area with trails to explore, a ranger service and lots of events like bat counts and stargazing. I have just under two weeks to have everything ready as I'm on holiday after that up until the day before the exhibition, eeeek! Best get back to it then!

Three Feathers Painting

Three Feathers © Imogen Greene2011
Quite some time ago I posted a photo of three feathers and promised a peek at the painting when it was done, TA DAH! This painting is destined for a small exhibition which is coming up soon. I'm hoping to finalise the date tomorrow. I have six paintings ready and six more to go. I'd like to get some cards printed for it too but I'm having trouble with getting the white balance right on my photos, they all seem to come out very dull and I've tried experimenting with the settings for ever and nothing seems to work. Something else I need to work on as soon as I have time, perhaps a new camera would help too!

Fox and squirrel

Well, the conversation about showing some Imogen Greene work in the flesh went well, so from what I was planning- (a small box display of unframed pieces) we've now got a whole wall to fill and space for the unframed ones too! Sooo, as soon as I have enough work together, which will be a couple of weeks, I will be having my first Imogen Greene exhibition! I must, must, must first of all get some more new work into Imogen's Attic shop though, hmmmm, I can feel some all nighters coming on.....

These two are going into the exhibition but I will be doing some for the shop too, acrylic ink on plywood, what do you think?

A walk in the sun

This is a lucky orange underwing moth that I bravely rescued from a cold and peaty lochan, armed only with a long stick and a fairly good sense of balance. I had G on standby just incase I fell in. We had a lovely walk round the lochan in the sunshine, lots of birdsong and a woodpecker occassionaly hammering away in the distance. It was bliss after too many days cooped up in the studio and I was able to relax knowing I'm on track to have all the work done for the exhibition in good time, hurrah!
